Despite their widespread use as a model organism, relatively little research has been performed on rat sperm-borne RNA. This may be due to the difficulties involved with isolating rat sperm RNA – rat sperm required the harshest lysis procedures of any species our lab has handled. SpermBase provides both small and large RNA expression data for the whole sperm of Sprague-Dawley rats.
The number of unique genes for each class of large and small RNA are provided in the adjacent table; the relative distributions of each RNA type are also shown.
